How Hosted VoIP works

With BT upgrading all of their network as part of their 21CN project, and companies rapidly adopting Hosted VoIP, it is accepted Hosted VoIP is the new standard in voice communications.

Hosted VoIP differs from the old versions of VoIP that have previously been tried by companies. The Internet is still used for communications to provide free calls instead of old style phone lines, but in a much more advanced and reliable way. The quality of new high-speed lines is equal to traditional telephone lines, and phone systems are hosted at a central exchange thereby removing the need to install and manage telephone systems within your own offices.

Because Hosted VoIP systems are hosted in a central facility this means there are no high up-front costs for you to implement the systems. All you pay is a small monthly fee for each user of the service and you then benefit from free calls and obtain business flexibility for linking users together within one telephone system regardless of their location. The experience of i-BR's client's is that this has been saved subtantial amounts on phone bills and costly telephone system infrastructure implementation and management.

Once your requirements have been assessed a project will be arranged to switch you from your existing telephone system supplier to your new Hosted VoIP system.

Within Branches the installation of new Internet data voice lines will be conducted, these are broadband lines but dedicated to your voice traffic to guarantee quality of calls. Your existing telephone numbers will be transferred to your new service (or new ones provided as you require). You then simply plug-in your VoIP phone handsets and your ready to go.

For home workers, these can be set-up as tele-workers and can typically use their existing broadband connections for the their calls and don't require any additional lines.

For hot-desking workers who are in and out of the office, they can ensure their telephone number follows them to any location they work in. For these workers you might wish to consider the use of 'soft-phones' where they plug in a headset to their laptop to make and receive calls wherever they have an Internet connection.

With your phones connected to the Internet your next step is to simply login to your Internet management console you will be provided. Through this console you can configure your numbers, answering rules, 'hunt-groups', out-of-hours answering - in fact all the services you could wish for with a fully featured telephone system.

You can also allow, if you wish, each phone user to access their own account to configure their number. This would include redirecting their number to different locations and/or numbers when they are out of the office, and/or mobile phone twinning.
